Since we first made Burning Black, as artists-in-residence at South Hill Park (2010), we’ve developed the work and shown it at greenroom (Manchester) (2010) and the University of Winchester (2011). The work explores fire as an essential element in the creation of communities, as danger and as a renewing force, utilising myth, autobiography and movement.
Burning Black is a journey through the mysteries of fire. Working with memory and ritual, it draws the viewer into an ephemeral community. From those moments together, what do the flames destroy? What endures? Bring your past, your dreams, and together we’ll forge the present.
It’s an exciting 25 minute performance piece. (all photos by Alma Haser):
