Are we looking for you?

Could you be a Two Destination Language trustee?

Two Destination Language make and share award-winning contemporary theatre. It is bold, visually arresting and stimulates conversations about the society we live in. Our stage work tours nationally and internationally. Our engagement projects transform communities. Our curation of microfests has introduced artists to new audiences, and audiences to new work.

Our work investigates identity: cultural difference and what happens when cultures interact, or don’t. The Total Theatre Award winning Near Gone, described in the Guardian as “gorgeous and wild”, uses differences in language – physical, verbal and emotional – to tell a story of family; by contrast, LANDED works with older people to place an often marginalised group at the centre of an intimate contemporary performance.

The organisation is led by artists Alister Lownie and Katherina Radeva, who have created all Two Destination Language’s projects. The trustees oversee the organisation’s work, offering support and challenge as Katherina and Alister research, create and share high-quality stimulating experiences. We are at an exciting stage of development as we build on our profile both nationally and internationally and we are always looking for wise and creative minds to contribute to the growth of Two Destination Language.

This autumn, we're on a 24 date tour with Fallen Fruit, and next year will see two new pieces open. As we continue to grow the audiences we reach, our income and spend are also growing rapidly.

To support our growing ambition, creative output and impact, we are looking to expand our board of trustees. In particular, we are looking for

  • someone with experience of a growing organisation expanding its funding sources. As we begin to look beyond core arts funders to support our activities, learning from others' successes and failures will be useful. Useful experience could come from a range of fundraising and finance roles during periods of growth.
  • a person who brings strategic planning skills to the board. We are growing in ambition, creative output and impact. As a small charity working with a close planning horizon has been our historic norm, but we're keen to push this further away to enhance our stability and the confidence with which partners can engage in our work. Experience of strategic and business planning can help support our plans for growth and ensure we achieve our strategic goals.
  • a young person! All of our trustees are over 30, and this doesn't fully reflect the range of audiences we reach. A younger trustee could bring fresh perspectives, and learn from helping manage an organisation, as well as from formal training.

We welcome expressions of interest from a wide range of backgrounds (personal and professional), and experience from outside the arts is especially valuable, so if you’re interested in supporting the company as a trustee, please do get in touch. While meetings are held in the UK, trustees can participate by video-conferencing, so can be based anywhere.

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses can be paid.

In the first instance, please contact Alister to discuss this role: email, or call +44 7786 911954.

Trustee recruitment is an ongoing process, and we welcome expressions of interest at any time. To be considered at the trustees' next meeting, expressions of interest need to be received by 20 November.
