The first piece Alister and Katherina collaborated on, Burning Black is a journey through the mysteries of fire. Working with memory and ritual, it draws the viewer into an ephemeral community. From those moments together, what do the flames destroy? What endures? Bring your past, your dreams, and together we’ll forge the present.
It’s an exciting 25 minute performance piece, exploring fire as an essential element in the creation of communities, as danger and as a renewing force, utilising myth, autobiography and movement.
After we first made Burning Black, as artists-in-residence at South Hill Park (2010), we developed the work to show it at greenroom (Manchester) (2010) and the University of Winchester (2011).
